GENERAL BODY MEETING
Students and faculty from 10 colleges attended the meeting. The meeting was presided by:

The following decisions were taken at the meeting:
- The annual student convention will be theme oriented.
- Meetings will be conducted regionally to increase awareness about the convention and thus increase participation.
- ISTE Kerala Section would take necessary steps to create students chapter in all the Engineering colleges and Polytechnic colleges in Kerala. To accomplish this, Principals of the all non-member colleges will be given necessary awareness about the chapter and its benefits.
TECHNICAL COMPETITIONS
CIRCUIT DEBUGGING
There were 100 participants for this competition, in the preliminary rounds. On 20th September 2008, circuit debugging was the first program which was conducted at 10:10am. There were eight participant groups in the final consisting of groups two from GEC Thrissur, three from Amal Jyothi, one from Saint Gits,and two from SJCET. Each grouped comprised of two participants. The judges of this program were Prof. C.P. Sebastain, Mrs. Geo P.G and Mr. Anoop B.N. Each group was given the task of designing a circuit. The groups designed the circuits on paper and then fabricated the equivalent circuits. GEC,Thrissur won the first prize and Saint Gits, Pathamattum the second prize.

TECHNICAL DEBATE
The Electrical department of SJCET, had the privilege of conducting this event. About 130 students were given a chance to showcase their technical aptitude. The test series included about 25 questions. It was a multiple choice having negative marking. Twenty minutes was the time allotted to complete the test. The Preliminary rounds was supported by Mr.Sino, Mr.Reshmara and Mr. Tomson, together with S7, S5 and S3 students of SJCET.

DESIGN CONTEST
The competition was organized by the Mechanical Department of SJCET. The contest spanned a period of 3 hours. The judges for the completion were Mr. Tom Zachrais and Mr. Jose Philip, both of them are Asst. professors in the Mechanical department of SJCET. The first prize was awarded to Anu C.J and Sarath J. from Maharaja Institute of Technology, Thrissur. They presented a digital firework processor 32CH3G. It’s a device that controls fireworks digitally without human interaction. A high voltage current is used to initiate the fire crackers. The Second prize was awarded to Nideesh James and Deepa Rani of SJCET,Palai.They designed an Intelligent arm which is used to sort out different goods of different sizes.

SOFTWARE DEBUGGING
The Computer Science Department organized the software debugging competition as part of ASPIRE ‘08. The competition had a preliminary round and a final round. The preliminary round had a written test of 45 questions. It was a multiple choice series which had no negative marking. The time allotted for the test was 30 minutes. The test examined the aptitude of the contestants in C language. The finals consisted of only one question which tests the wits of the contestants in C language. Contestants have to debug a bug ridden programme on the computer system. Riju Issac of Saint Gits College ,Kottayam was awarded first prize .Second prize went to Karthik S of TKM College, Kollam.

TECHNICAL QUIZ
The technical quiz competition was organized by the Science and Humanities department under the leadership of Mr. Binumon P.,Lecturer in Maths. The competition consisted of two stages, prelims and the final round. About 148 students had taken the prelims of which five teams were selected to the second stage. A total a 10 rounds namely, titte round, visual round, olympic round, subject round, who-is-who round, mismatch round, media round, logos round, rapid fire round and the buzzer round Of the five teams that moved to the second stage from the prelims, Anoop Ram Kishor and Nivim Paul from GEC, Thrissur grabbed the stage with a total of 70 points. Vikas P. and Naufal Samad of GEC, Thrissur become the runners up.

NETWORK GAMING
The network gaming competition was organized by the Applied Electronics and Instrumentation department of SJCET. The program was organized under the leadership of Vimal George, Alex Mathew, Franso Francis, Preneeth S Thomas, all from S7 AEI. A total of 97 students participated in the preliminary rounds which were scheduled from 1:30 to 4:00pm on the 19th September. The players played in 4 groups. Four teams moved to the final round which commenced very shortly after the prelims. Mr. Harish M & Mr. Jayadev Shivadas from SJCET took away the first prize.

NEW PRODUCT LAUNCH

The New Product Launch contest was conducted by the SJCET School of Management Studies. New Product Launch is an arena where a student can exhibit their management skills. The contest was held on the second day of the meet and about 17 teams participated. The competition was held in two rounds. The preliminary stage had a written aptitude test from which five teams were selected for the final. In the final round each team was given certain base materials and each team has to make a new product from it. Teams also have to make a PowerPoint presentation to support their product launch. The span of the competition was three hours. Team from GEC, Thrissur bagged the first price. The runners up of the event were from Saintgits College, Kottayam.
BEST MANAGER
A total of 95 students registered for the Best Manager competition. 20 participants were shortlisted from the preliminary round for the next rounds of the competition. The venue of the final was the Multi Purpose Building and started at 1.45pm of the second day. There were a total of five rounds namely Instant Talk, Mystery Round, Task Completion, Success situation and Management Finesse. After a highly animated competition Mr. Jubin George of Saintgits College was declared the Best Manager.

PAPER PRESENTATION
Various departments organized Paper Presentation contests on the first day of the annual state convention ASPIRE 08. Innovative projects and latest technologies were presented to illuminate the contests held at department venues.
Mechanical Engineering Department
A total of 8 teams participated in this event. The first prize was awarded to Mani K. Paul and Mathew Joseph, their presentation was on Ant Colony Optimization. The second prize went to Gopalakrishnan S. and Jayadev A.S who presented a paper on Automated Guided Vehicle. Electronics and Communication Engineering Department The Paper Presentation in the electronics department commenced at 1.30 pm. A total of five selected papers were presented .The judges were; Prof. Radhakrishnan (GEC,Thrissur), Prof. C. P. Sebastian (HOD of ECE,SJCET),Ms. Anita and Mr. Sabrinath G. The paper on eye tracker, presented by GEC won first prize. The second prize was shared between the papers on Total Security System and Face Recognition using Eigen Face approach.
Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department A total of 5 selected team participated in this event. Papers were presented about various currently relevant as well as emerging technologies. The event was judged by Prof. P.V. Varkey (HOD, EEE department,SJCET) and Mr. Bobin Joseph P. The first prize was bagged by the College of Engineering, Trivandrum. The second prize went to Mr. Jimmy Kuriakose of SJCET.
Applied Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering Department A total of 6 selected teams showcased their presentation skills. The event was judged by Dr. K.P Zachariah, Mr. Abi P. Mathew and Mrs. Aans Smith Abraham. The first prize went to Deepa R and Gokul Suresh of GEC, Thrissur and the second prize went to Maneera Cherian and Tan Kuruvilla of SJCET.
Computer Science and Engineering Department A total of 5 teams participated in this event. Deepak V. John From Saint Gits, Kottayam won the first prize. The event was judged by, Mr. Rajesh Kumar V.T, Mrs. Smitha Jacob, Mr. Juvilent V. Kizhakethotham

Closing ceremony
The closing ceremony of ASPIRE 08 started at 5pm at the multipurpose building of SJCET.The cash prizes and certificates were distributed during the function.The performance of the college music club was held during this function. Prizes to the best feedback was awarded with a cash prize.GEC,Thrissur has bagged the overall championship with a total of 107 points.the Saintgitts college stood second followed by SJCET in the third position
