St. Mary's Ladies Hostel


The prime objective of St. Mary's Hostel is to provide the students with the necessary amenities to develop an integrated personality, besides providing a calm and peaceful atmosphere for students.

Admission to the hostel is restricted to students of St. Joseph's College of Engineering and Technology, Palai.  200 seats are available for students and a separate wing in the hostel with 10 double rooms are available for lady staff members.

Sisters are in charge of the hostel. Hostels follows dividing system in running the hostel mess. Mess committee would decide the menu.

A chapel is provided, so that catholic students can attend the daily Holy Mass, night prayer, prayer meetings etc. Other Students are also free to use the chapel for personal prayer.

During study time hostels are expected to observe complete silence, they must be in their own rooms or in the study hall.

Electricity is provided for 24 hours. In case of power failure, generator will supply power to the hostel.

Incoming phone calls will be provided to the students in their rooms at the prescribed times. I T card phone and telephone booths are also available.   TV programmes are permitted daily during recreation time and on holidays. Facilities for games are available in the hostel compound itself. Washing and drying area is provided along with the facility to iron. Once in a week college bus will be arranged for shopping. Onam, Christmas festivals and hostel day celebrations are conducted with competitions and variety entertainments.

Warden and teachers are careful in the study and discipline of the students.


St.Thomas Boy's Hostel

When St. Joseph's college of Engineering and Technology was conceived, it was decided to make the college a truly residential campus, providing all the requisite facilities for the holistic development of the student. With this aim in mind, St. Thomas Hostel for men was built within the college campus in 2003.  The hostel can boast of all necessary infrastructures, which are required for a student of engineering.  Well furnished rooms and mess hall, keeping in mind SJCET's passion for quality and excellence, are provided for the convenience of the students. The hostel has two wardens in Fr. Joseph Meleparambil and Fr. Thomas Kizhakel to look after the needs of the students. To cater to the academic needs of the students, resident tutors are available in the hostel.

The hostel consists of blocks II & I. Block I is meant for 1st and 2 nd year students with three inmates in a room. Block II is meant for III rd & IV year students with two inmates in a room. Each floor has common drying and washing area. Drinking water outlets are provided at various points and a cooler is also provided for those who wish to drink cold water. For the entertainment of the students, a common lobby with television has been arranged and major newspapers are also provided.


The hostel is set in lush green surroundings with clean air, water and a calm atmosphere conducive for learning.
The hostel mess provides good and wholesome food for its inmates and the expenses are met by dividing system.  For the physical well being of the inmates, Kalaripayattu, Karate and yoga classes are held in the hostel.

There is a chapel for ensuring the spiritual growth of the inmates with Holy Mass held everyday and Evening prayer. Moral talks are also held regularly and counseling facilities are also available. Each room has a telephone and incoming calls for the inmates are directed to their respective rooms. STD call facilities are also available for the convenience of the inmates.  Students are also encouraged to make use of the college library and for this purpose timing have been chalked out for the inmates to make use of the library.  Study halls have been set up on top of each block were students can discuss topics or engage in combined study without causing a disturbance to their fellow inmates. All these facilities make St. Thomas hostel a home away from home ensuring a safe and positive environment for the student.


St. Augustine's hostel

The newly constructed St. Augustine's hostel  consists of 2 Blocks,Block A & Block B.Students of Post Graduate courses and second year BTech students are staying  at Block A.Block B is fully meant for the First year students. A separate wing at the ground floor of Block B are  available for the ladies staff. The hostel provides the students with the necessary amenities to develop an integrated personality, besides providing a calm and peaceful atmosphere for students.

Hostel inmates are expected to follow strictly the hostel rules regarding general discipline and behaviour, study periods, meal timings and other matters. They are also expected to take good care of hostel properties like furniture, toilet and bath-room fittings,electrical accessories, etc.
